The Challenge:
Located just east of downtown Colorado Springs, the U.S. Training Center extends a majestic view of Pike’s Peak and the Rocky Mountain Front Range. The facility was donated by the U.S. Air Force for the use of our country’s premier athletes.
Many of the campus buildings date back to the early 1950s. One of the oldest buildings in the complex, Building #4, is a multipurpose gymnasium used for basketball, volleyball, and boxing. The original design incorporated no acoustical solutions of any type, making conversation in the gymnasium impossible due to the extreme reverberation time.
The Solution:
One-inch thick TECTUM Direct Attach Wall Panels and ceiling panels were installed in a 4' x 4' diamond pattern which duplicates the design of the exterior synthetic stucco system. The results provided a facility that fulfills both the architect’s and owner’s objectives.
The reduction in the ambient noise level and reverberation time made the facility a desirable place to train from very early in the morning to late at night.
After the successful noise reduction in Building #4, the architects plan on using TECTUM acoustical panels for future reconstruction projects in various buildings at the training facility.
