How do TEMPLOK ceilings qualify for tax credits and rebates?
TEMPLOK Energy Saving Ceilings utilize phase change material (PCM) to transform these large surface areas into more sustainable, resilient spaces. TEMPLOK phase change material provides thermal energy storage, which may be eligible for certain federal tax credits and/or deductions.

Credits, Deductions and Rebates Breakdown

Inflation Reduction Act of 2022, Section 48E

Under Section 48E, the purchase and installation of Armstrong TEMPLOK Energy Saving Ceiling systems (including panels and suspension) which contain thermal energy storage properties, may qualify for a federal investment tax credit of up to 50% of the project purchase cost. **

179D Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings Tax Deduction

Under Federal Internal Revenue Code 179D, commercial building owners may be able to claim a tax deduction for certain energy efficient commercial building property. TEMPLOK Energy Saving Ceilings may qualify as part of a building’s heating, cooling or ventilation systems.

 

What is the value of the 179D Deduction?

 For energy efficient commercial building property (EECBP) or energy efficient commercial building retrofit property (EEBRP***) the deduction for EECBP equals the lesser of the cost of the installed property or up to a maximum of $5.81/sq ft. The deduction amount varies for building placed in service before 2023.

What credits, deductions and/or rebates are available? And where?
A variety of credits, deductions or rebates may be available based on your project type, geographical location or other factors. We will continue to add information as additional programs become available. This deduction is only available in the United States for eligible tax payers. This credit is only available in the United States for eligible tax payers.
What is my price for TEMPLOK Ceilings before and after credits or deductions?
Consult your Armstrong Rep or local distributor for help with calculations.    
What is the amount of the credit or deduction and what does it apply to?
The value and applicable product(s) for each credit or deduction vary. Please review specific incentive documentation with your tax advisor.  The deduction for EECBP equals the lesser of the cost of the installed property or up to a maximum of  $5.81/sq. ft. The deduction amount varies for building placed in service before 2023. You may qualify for up to a 50% credit.  The first 40% is based on you  meeting the prevaling wage and apprenticship requirements and Armstrong use of domestic content in the manufacturing process. 

An extra 10% may apply in designated energy communities.  Consult your tax advisor to see if your project fits this requirement.
Who is eligible for/who can claim the credit or deduction?
Qualifications vary by credit or deduction.  Please consult the specific credit and deduction documentation and review with your tax advisor. Owners of qualified commercial buildings as well as designers of EECBP/EEBRP installed in buildings owned by specified tax-exempt entities. Owners with a qualified energy storage technology placed in service after Dec. 31, 2024 may claim the credit.

This may vary by credit or deduction. We recommend keeping receipts for all material ordered from your AWI distributor and installation of AWI material for the applicable project. You may also need receipts for consultant work for design, engineering, and energy evaluation.
